13/07/2020 (Agence Europe) – In a statement issued on Monday 13 July, the PES Women political grouping – the gender equality arm of the Party of European Socialists– said that the EU’s response to the Covid-19 crisis risked perpetuating and deepening existing gender inequalities, as it lacked “gender mainstreamed budgets and targeted funding for gender equality”. The organisation also advocates that gender equality be a precondition for funding under the EU Recovery Plan. It also believes that substantial funds should be devoted to sectors where women are particularly represented (personal services, care, hotels, etc.) and that the Multiannual Financial Framework for 2021-2027 should follow the principles of gender budgeting.
