Dialogue finally resumes after a 20-month break

The EU-facilitated Dialogue between Avdullah Hoti, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, and Aleksandar Vučić, the President of Serbia, resumed on Sunday 12 July by videoconference. Another meeting, this time face-to-face, will be held in Brussels on Thursday 16 July.

The Dialogue is back on track (...). We will meet again on Thursday and I hope that this will be an important step towards the normalisation of relations between Pristina and Belgrade”, said Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy on 13 July.

Prior to resumption of the Dialogue, he stressed the “urgent need to work towards peace and prosperity for the sake of our common future”. He warned that “the talks will require political courage on both sides; they will require commitment and dedication in a spirit of compromise and pragmatism”, and added that finding solutions to such long-standing and painful problems is never easy.

EU Special Representative Miroslav Lajčák stated that Sunday’s meeting was an opportunity to agree on the main elements of the process. “We also agreed on the agenda for the next meeting” on 16 July, he added. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
