European Commission and Japan sign bilateral aviation safety agreement

22/06/2020 (Agence Europe)On Monday 22 June, the European Commission and Japan signed a bilateral aviation safety agreement (BASA), which should facilitate cooperation and increase trade in aeronautical products between Japanese and European manufacturers. The agreement should also make it possible to increase trade and European manufacturers’ share of the Japanese market, according to the Commission. The stated objective is to reduce the administrative burden on the authorities on both sides. The BASA is also expected to reduce the time it takes manufacturers of aeronautical products to obtain authorisations for exports to Japan. Pending the definitive entry into force of the Agreement - which is still subject to internal procedures on both the European and Japanese sides - the text will be applied provisionally from the date of signature.
