22/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – MEPs voted in favour (587 votes in favour, 32 against, 46 abstentions,) on Friday 19 June, of the motion for a resolution by the EPP, S&D, Renew Europe, Greens/EFA and GUE/NGL groups on transport and tourism. This proposal, detailed in our columns last week (see EUROPE 12508/10), calls for a resumption of safe travel and the development of a strategy to modernise tourism (see EUROPE 12509/4). It also calls on the EU to rapidly provide financial support to these two sectors in order to support workers and avoid bankruptcies. It should be noted, however, that the European Parliament overwhelmingly rejected a GUE/NGL amendment calling for additional measures in this area and guaranteed access to employment aid for all workers, as those in “non-standard forms of employment” have been “widely excluded from short-time arrangements” or other forms of state wage compensation schemes.
