22/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament adopted two resolutions on the Western Balkans and the Eastern Partnership on Friday 19 June, in parallel with the EU/Western Balkans and Eastern Partnership summits on 6 May (see EUROPE 12482/21) and 18 June (see EUROPE 12510/16) respectively. The resolution from Petras Auštrevičius (Renew Europe, Lithuania), adopted by 507 votes in favour, 119 against and 37 abstentions, calls for a “clear strategy and a common long-term vision” for the further development of the Eastern Partnership (see EUROPE 12506/8) (see resolution: https://bit.ly/3hSjMdS ). Adopting a resolution by Tinoni Picula (S&D, Croatia) on the Western Balkans (532 votes in favour, 70 against and 63 abstentions), MEPs call for greater EU involvement in the region and note that the ultimate goal for the six Western Balkan countries is EU membership (see resolution: https://bit.ly/314olfe ).
