22/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament adopted (593 votes in favour, 34 against, 38 abstentions), on Friday 19 June, the resolution on the protection of seasonal and frontier workers in the Union in the context of Covid-19 (see EUROPE 12510/5). In essence, MEPs are calling for more cross-border inspections to combat abuse by stressing the role of the European Labour Authority. The resolution calls for a swift interinstitutional agreement on the Regulation on the ‘coordination of security systems’, and - more unexpectedly - introduces the recognition of ‘social dumping’ as a phenomenon to be combated. They also call for new guidelines for these workers in light of the health crisis. (PH)
