22/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, regretfully stated on Monday 22 June that there was a lack of EU interest in Latin America, beyond Cuba and Venezuela. “The EU is not interested enough in what is happening in Latin America and it’s a mistake that has to be corrected”, he told the German Marshall Fund. According to the former Spanish Foreign Minister, the continent presents both opportunities and challenges as it has been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic. “I will do my best to put Latin America in the mind of Europeans so they understand it’s an important part of the world (...) and that it cannot be seen as backwards to the United States”, he said, adding that if Europeans don't get involved, then China will.
