13/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – The Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy, Olivér Várhelyi, welcomed on Wednesday 13 May the adoption of the draft law on banking supervision by the Ukrainian Parliament, the Verkhovna Rada (see EUROPE 12461/43). According to him, this is a “significant measure” for the country, as well as within the framework of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and EU financial assistance. This law was needed to unblock an $8 billion IMF loan intended to help consolidate the country's public finances. The disbursement of EU macro-financial assistance is also linked to Kiev's compliance with the conditions imposed by the IMF. Mr Várhelyi promised that the EU would continue to provide support to Ukraine regarding the path of reform. (CG)
