13/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, condemned, on Tuesday 12 May, the attacks in Afghanistan on a maternity ward in Kabul and a funeral in Nangarhar on the same day. “There are few words that can do justice to the horrors we have witnessed”, he said in a statement, describing the attacks as the “most reprehensible acts of terror”. About 20 people were killed in the attack on Nangarhar. Borrell said the attack on the Dasht-e-Barchi hospital maternity ward, which killed 13 people, including two infants, showed “an appalling degree of inhumanity” and constitute a clear violation of International Humanitarian Law. “The perpetrators will have to bear the consequences”, he warned. The High Representative once again called for a permanent ceasefire. (CG)
