13/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – MEPs meeting in plenary adopted at second reading on Wednesday 13 May the agreement reached with the EU Council on revised tyre labelling rules (1222/2009) aimed at making tyre labels clearer in respect of fuel efficiency, wet grip, and external rolling noise (see EUROPE 12370/8). “The updated tyre label is a simple but efficient tool, contributing to safer and cleaner mobility by encouraging changes in consumer behaviour”, said Henna Virkkunen (EPP, Finland), rapporteur for Parliament. This agreement provides that information on snow and ice grip, as well as information on mileage and abrasion, may be added in the future through delegated acts when valid test methods are available. Before becoming applicable on 1 May 2021, the agreement must now be formally adopted by the EU Council. (DG)
