13/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – After the European Commission (see EUROPE 12484/18) and the Court of Justice of the European Union (see EUROPE 12483/15), the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, recalled “the primacy of European law” on Wednesday 13 May before the European Parliament, referring to the recent ruling of the German Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe on the ECB’s quantitative easing which challenges the EU legal order (see EUROPE 12484/18). “The role of the EU Court of Justice is to ensure the uniform interpretation of European law”, he added. In Berlin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she respected the decision of the Karlsruhe Court, which she said should be seen as an encouragement for greater budgetary integration at European level.
