Member States endorse €279 million in aid from EU Solidarity Fund

On Wednesday 13 May, the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the Member States to the EU (Coreper) approved a proposal to grant €279 million in aid to Portugal, Spain, Italy and Austria following natural disasters (see EUROPE 12478/21).

The aid, which comes from the EU Solidarity Fund, will be used to help repair the damage caused by the major natural disasters that hit these four Member States in 2019.

It will be distributed as follows: €211.7 million to Italy, €56.7 million to Spain, €8.2 million to Portugal, and €2.3 million to Austria.

The EU ambassadors also approved the Council of the EU's position on draft amending budget no 4 for 2020 to enter the necessary appropriations in the EU budget, both in commitments and payments (€272.5 million, after the advances that have already paid to Portugal and Spain have been deducted).

Assistance from the Solidarity Fund will be paid once the proposals have been adopted by the European Parliament and the Council of the EU. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
