13/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – Delara Burkhardt MEP (S&D, Germany) lambasted the CDU/CSU's position on the European Green Deal, presented to the Bundestag on Tuesday 12 May, saying it lacks climate ambition for the EU, contrary to the position defended by Angela Merkel. “At the Petersberg Climate Dialogue, Chancellor Merkel finally committed herself to raising the European climate targets for 2030 to between 50 and 55% (see EUROPE 12477/13), Ms Burkhardt said in a statement issued on 12 May. And to add: “Now the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag is stabbing the Chancellor in the back over climate protection. There is not a single positive word on increasing the EU's climate targets in the position paper of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group”. (AN)
