05/02/2020 (Agence Europe) – S&D group MEPs in the European Parliament want Croatia to set up an independent mechanism to monitor border control activities, the group said on Wednesday 5 February. Several MEPs took part in a mission to Croatia and Bosnia to assess the situation of refugees living in very precarious conditions in camps on the Bosnian border with Croatia. “I am deeply concerned about the living conditions in the camps in Bosnia. We have seen many children and unaccompanied minors and it is important that education remains a priority in humanitarian emergencies”, said Austrian Bettina Vollath. In January, members of the European Parliament ‘Civil Liberties’ Committee were very vehement with the Croatian Interior Minister and had already called for an independent inquiry (see EUROPE 12412/8).
