The European Commission’s Startup Europe initiative announced, on Tuesday 4 February, the launch of an online platform dedicated to start-ups, investors and institutions, aimed at fostering the development of start-up activities throughout Europe.
Indeed, only a handful of cities have so far dominated the European start-up ecosystem: “76% of all capital invested in Europe since 2013 has flowed to just 10 hubs representing only 30% of the talent pool. This equates to 29 cities across Europe attracting over $100 M of capital invested in 2019 alone”, Startup Europe details in a release.
The platform that has just seen the light of day should therefore make it possible to reach a greater number of people and facilitate the growth and development of new centres.
88% of start-ups plan to continue their international growth in one or more countries over the next 12 months, the press release also explains. For Startup Europe, there is indeed a clear need for ecosystems that can contribute to this growth.
In addition to its online platform, the Commission’s initiative therefore also launches seven new European ecosystem-building projects.
These projects (B-hub for Europe, Innodec, Media Motor Europe, Scale-up Champions, Scaleup4Europe, Startup 3 and XEurope) should make it possible to “accompany startups as they encounter obstacles to their growth”, says Startup Europe. (Original version in French by Agathe Cherki – intern)
