11/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – The Supreme Court of Spain is to rule out the term "rebellion" in the charge against twelve Catalan separatists, according to information reported by the Spanish newspaper El Pais, on Friday, 11 October. Following the organisation of the referendum on the independence of Catalonia, twelve separatists were charged with “sedition and rebellion” (see EUROPE 12192/35). The sedition charge remains. Contacted by EUROPE, the representative of the Government of Catalonia to the EU, Meritxell Serret, prefers to wait for the judgment, which is likely to be handed down on Monday 14 October. In her view, the only successful outcome would be the release without conviction of the twelve independence fighters. (PH)
