04/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced on Friday 4 October that it has approved the application to enter Romanian sausages 'Cârnaţi from Pleşcoi' in the EU register of Protected Geographical Indications (PGI). ‘Pleşcoi Cârnaţi' are smoked sausages made from a mixture of sheep and beef meat, sometimes also goat meat, seasoned with hot red pepper, garlic and thyme. This combination of ingredients and this particular process gives them a unique taste, known and renowned throughout Romania since the 13th century. Since 2008, a festival of the ' Cârnaţi de Pleşcoi’ has been organised to celebrate this highly appreciated delicacy during the holidays. This new PGI will join more than 1450 high-quality products already protected at the EU level. (LC)
