04/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – The Vice-President of the European Commission appointed to Protection of Our European Way of Life, Margaritis Schinas, was supported by a sufficient majority of the coordinators of the European Parliament's Civil Liberties and Culture Committees on Thursday 3 October, after a high quality presentation (see EUROPE 12341/1). However, the political groups Identity and Democracy and GUE/NGL did not support the candidate. The latter group abstained, finding Mr Schinas' answers insufficiently convincing. The S&D, Greens/EFA and Renew Europe groups have sent a letter to the Parliament's Conference of Group Chairs asking the President-elect of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, to change the name of the assigned portfolio.
