The European Parliament submitted a long series of questions covering around ten pages to the Commissioner-designate for the Internal Market, Sylvie Goulard, on Friday 4 October. The Commissioner has until the evening of Tuesday October 8, to respond.
There are many questions, following on from the hearing held on Wednesday 2 October, on the deepening of the Single Market, artificial intelligence, defence and, in particular, the European Defence Fund, industrial policy and the external dimension of the Internal Market (and in particular the question of State aid).
Once again, the Commissioner-designate has been asked a series of questions about her integrity. In particular, she was asked whether she would resign in the event of her being convicted in the two cases that are casting a shadow over her candidacy. The same question has been asked of her in the event of her being indicted.
In addition, Mrs Goulard is again being asked about the large size of her portfolio, which spans digital, the internal market, industry, defence and space.
The Commissioner failed at her hearing in front of the European Parliament on Wednesday 2 October because she was judged by the coordinators of the competent committees to be unconvincing regarding the cases that affect her, but also too vague on the portfolios for which she will be responsible (see EUROPE 12340/1).
