04/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 7th October, Health and Food Safety Commissioner, Vytenis Andriukaitis will convene the sixth meeting of the EU Platform on Animal Welfare. Launched in June 2017, the Platform is now recognised as a pivotal forum for Member States and stakeholders to share information and good practices, the European Commission stated positively. The Commissioner is convinced that the implementation and enforcement of animal welfare legislation "are bound to remain a key issue for the incoming Commission". The Platform's agenda includes presentations on animal transport and the welfare of pigs. The Commission will present the achievements of the platform since its creation and the activities of the first EU Reference Centre on Animal Welfare. (LC)
