12/09/2019 (Agence Europe) – On 20 September and for the first time in a long time, the Financial Transaction Tax (FTT) will be discussed in the Council of the EU’s Working Party on Taxation. In June, France and Germany had hoped that an agreement could be reached in the autumn (see EUROPE 12275/2). However, according to a European source, the Twenty-Eight holding such a meeting does not indicate that an agreement has been reached. The agenda of the meeting simply mentions an “inventory”. No meeting of ministers from the ten countries involved in enhanced cooperation to establish the FTT - namely France, Germany, Belgium, Portugal, Austria, Slovenia, Greece, Spain, Italy and Slovakia - is expected to take place alongside the Ecofin Council in Helsinki on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 September, according to another source.
