12/09/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 11 September, the European Union welcomed the prospect of a grand national dialogue in Cameroon. President Paul Biya had announced the previous day that he would be convening the national dialogue at the end of September. This announcement “constitutes a positive development in the search for a solution to the crisis in the south-west and north-west regions of Cameroon. All parties involved, including armed groups and the diaspora, should seize this opportunity to contribute to an inclusive process so that it fully meets the expectations of the population”, said a spokesperson from the European External Action Service in a statement issued on Wednesday evening. The EU has promised to continue supporting “efforts in this regard, in coordination with its international and regional partners”. (AN)
