Invited to give their opinion on a possible referral to the European Commission of proposals relating to the social and market aspects of the first mobility package (posting of drivers, driving and resting time, tachograph, cabotage and market access) (see EUROPE 12319/7), the political groups in the European Parliament's Transport Committee did not support such an option.
The Commission will therefore not be asked to review its copy in the coming weeks on these sensitive issues. While the positions of the left-wing political forces (S&D, Greens/EFA, GUE/NGL) were already known, those of Renew Europe and of the EPP were more uncertain. Finally, only the ECR group wanted the Commission to review its proposals.
While both the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union have adopted their position on the matter (see EUROPE 12229/1, 12152/10), the Parliament's Transport Committee is now due to vote on the negotiating mandates at the session on 23 and 24 September, with a view to starting interinstitutional negotiations ('trilogues').
