09/09/2019 (Agence Europe) – The spokeswoman of the European External Action Service announced on Monday 9 September that the EU does not recognise the local and regional elections held the day before in Crimea. 12 regions of Russia were also affected by elections. “The European Union does not recognise the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol by the Russian Federation, and continues to condemn this violation of international law. Therefore, the European Union does not recognise the holding of elections in the Crimean peninsula”, the spokesperson recalled in a statement. She also warned that any person elected in the Crimean Peninsula “claiming to ‘represent’ the populations of Crimea and Sevastopol will not be recognised as representatives of those territories, which are Ukrainian”. According to the spokesperson, the EU remains unwavering in its support for Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty. (CG)
