02/07/2019 (Agence Europe) – The Chairman of the European Parliament's Subcommittee on Human Rights, Antonio Panzeri (S&D, Italy), welcomed on Monday 1 July the report of the UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary killings, Agnes Callamard, on the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. This report “constitutes an important step in the fight against impunity in Saudi Arabia”, said Mr Panzeri in a statement, welcoming Ms Callamard's call for a follow-up international criminal investigation into the case. “As the report points out, there is ample evidence that Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was the victim of a deliberate and premeditated execution for which the State of Saudi Arabia is responsible”, he added. According to him, the international community must “put an end to impunity and take strong measures to hold those responsible accountable”. (CG)
