06/06/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 6 June, the EU Council of Ministers formally adopted the Regulation relating to the multi-annual plan for the management of fish stocks in the western Mediterranean (see EUROPE 12262/10). The plan is based on a fishing effort management scheme to gradually achieve stock management (by 1 January 2025 at the latest) in accordance with maximum sustainable yield (MSY) objectives. Recreational fishing will be regulated and restrictions will apply to trawl nets. The new rules will apply on the 20th day following publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. The Council of the EU also adopted the multiannual recovery plan for swordfish stocks (see EUROPE 12229/37). (LC)
