06/06/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 6 June, the Council of the EU gave the green light to new rules regarding open data and the re-use of public sector information, marking the end of the adoption procedure. Specifically, this text seeks to access and re-use data held by the public sector. It limits the cost of re-use and introduces the concept of “high-value datasets” which are to be made available free of charge through an application programming interface (API). The new directive, which will have to be implemented by all Member States by the summer of 2021, is the result of a compromise reached between the Member States and the previous Parliament last January (see EUROPE 12178/7).
