EU States and Eastern Partnership countries reaffirm their cooperation

EU Transport Ministers and their counterparts from the six Eastern Partnership countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine) signed a Joint Declaration on Thursday 6 June in Luxembourg, affirming their commitment to continue their cooperation in the area of transport.

This text, adopted on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Eastern Partnership (see EUROPE 12253/5), at the EU ‘Transport’ Council meeting (see other news), first recalls the joint achievements of the European Union and the six third countries in the field of transport and their results, in particular regarding the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).

Ministers then stated in particular that they will work to put in place initiatives to strengthen connectivity between the EU and the Eastern Partnership. A TEN-T technical assistance facility could also be developed to support the six countries. They also want to set up a Regional Eastern Partnership Road Safety Observatory.

Finally, the document states that there is no intention to create new rights or obligations, particularly financial ones. Link to the document: https://bit.ly/2wHedbP (Original version in French by Lucas Tripoteau)
