Group still does not have a new name

The ALDE&R group in the European Parliament still does not have a new name.

This should have been decided on Wednesday, 5 June, but, faced with an avalanche of proposals, the vote on the liberal group’s new name is expected to only take place on Tuesday, 11 June, and Wednesday, 12 June (see EUROPE 12267/1).

According to one source, out of the 40 or so names proposed for the group, about seven names are expected be selected in order to reduce the options for the vote. This source specified that it was initially necessary to verify that the proposed names were not already being used.

Nominations for the group’s presidency will also officially be open from next Tuesday until Monday, 17 June, the day before the candidates are presented (see EUROPE 12265/23). The vote on the presidency will take place on Wednesday, 19 June. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
