06/06/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 6 June, the EU Council definitively adopted the new rules of the Visa Code which will facilitate the travel conditions of legitimate travellers, but will also impose conditionality on third countries that do not cooperate sufficiently to take back their nationals who are in an irregular situation in the EU. The new rules will provide faster and clearer procedures for legitimate travellers, a statement said, allowing, among other things, visa applications to be submitted up to 6 months and at the latest 15 days before travel; visa fees will be increased to 80 euros. For cooperation on the readmission of migrants, visa processing will be a lever: it will be possible to delay the processing of files in case of problems, or even to adjust the level of visa fees. An EU Council decision will be required after a proposal from the Commission. (SP)
