23/04/2019 (Agence Europe) – The Party of the European Left (EL), having nominated (after multiple postponements) its two co-Spitzenkandidaten at the end of January (see EUROPE 12181/13), officially launched its campaign for the European elections last week, on the outskirts of the last plenary session of this European Parliament mandate. On the occasion of his election as Spitzenkandidat alongside Slovenian Violeta Tomič, Belgian Nico Cué met with EUROPE (see EUROPE 12182/20) at the end of January to present the EL's strategy and the programme it will defend. During the interview, the former trade unionist rejected any ‘Lexit’ (departure of an EU Member State at the instigation of a left-wing government) and strongly advocated for a progressive front against the "fascistic wave" in Europe.
