23/04/2019 (Agence Europe) – European External Action Service spokesperson Maja Kocijancic explained on Tuesday 23 April, that the EU regretted the US announcement the day before that it would not renew exemptions from US sanctions on Iranian oil granted to eight countries, including Italy and Greece, starting 2 May. This decision “risks further undermining the implementation” of the Iranian nuclear deal that the EU will continue to respect, Kocijancic warned. In addition to Italy and Greece, the other countries concerned are China, India, Turkey, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. Rome, Athens and Taipei have reportedly already stopped importing oil from Iran since November. The Iranian Foreign Ministry stressed on Monday 22 April, that it was continuing to “discuss these issues on an ongoing basis” with its partners, particularly its European ones. (CG)
