On 15 April, the European Commission adopted the Draft Amending Budget number No 1/2019, which forecasts a budget surplus of €1.8 billion in 2018. The 2017 budget surplus that was returned to EU countries in 2018 was €555.5 million.
The Draft Amending Budget presented (No 1/2019) has yet to be approved by the two arms of the budgetary authority, the Council of the EU and the European Parliament.
