23/04/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 23 April, the European Commission approved Lithuanian aid to support the production of electricity from renewable energy sources. This measure, budgeted at €385 million and effective from 1 May, will result in a premium established through a competitive procedure and granted for installations producing this type of electricity. The amount of this premium will not exceed the difference between the price of electricity in Lithuania and the average production costs of onshore wind energy production. Considering that this measure would have an incentive effect and that it would be proportionate and limited to the minimum necessary without unduly distorting competition, the Commission considered that it was compatible with the EU State aid rules, in particular with the guidelines on State aid for environmental protection and energy.
