23/04/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 23 April the European Commission approved a Dutch measure to support De Meerlanden Holding NV for the installation of CO2 capture technology in a biomass digester. The captured CO2 will then be transported to greenhouses located in a horticultural area that are at present producing their own CO2. Budgeted at €706,000 and to be implemented as a subsidy, this measure should reduce emissions by 2.4 kilotons of CO2 per year. Considering that this measure would contribute to the EU's environmental and climate goals, without unduly distorting competition in the EU, the Commission considered that it was compatible with EU State aid rules, in particular the guidelines on state aid for environmental protection and energy.
