19/03/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Monday, 18 March, the European Union welcomed the “peaceful and orderly” manner of the legislative elections in Guinea-Bissau on 10 March, expressing the hope that this bodes well for the upcoming presidential elections. “Despite the delays, the elections are a positive development for the country’s institutional and democratic consolidation. Moreover, they mark an important step forward in the implementation of the Conakry Agreement brokered by ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States), whose diplomatic efforts, electoral assistance and monitoring, as well as the deployment of ECOMIB, have been crucial in the electoral process”, said the spokesperson of the European External Action Service, in a statement. Also added: “Ahead of the upcoming presidential elections, to be held according to the Constitution, the EU expects same positive dynamics will prevail". (AN)
