19/03/2019 (Agence Europe) – In 2016, up to 121 billion euros worth of imports into the EU, representing 6.8% of EU imports, were counterfeit and pirated goods, according to a report by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), published on Monday 18 March. This is a significant increase from the estimated 5% of EU imports in 2013. Globally, the trend is the same: counterfeit and pirated goods worth some 460 billion euros were sold in 2016. Thus, according to the Office, the share of counterfeits in world trade has increased from 2.5% in the estimates published in 2013 to 3.3%.
