On Wednesday 13 February, MEPs approved by 573 votes to 18, with 25 abstentions, the draft report drawn up by Kay Swinburne (ECR, UK) approving the proposal for a decision to extend the computerising movement and surveillance of excise goods to internal movements within the Union of excise goods released for consumption.
In practical terms, the computerising will allow the electronic transmission of administrative documents, improve controls and simplify intra-EU movements of excise goods.
The Consultative Working Party of the Legal Services of the Parliament, the Council and the Commission considered that the proposal did not contain any substantive amendments other than those identified as such in the proposal and was limited to a straightforward codification of the existing acts, without changing their substance.
