13/02/2019 (Agence Europe) – The Slovenian Social Democratic Party launched an online petition on Tuesday 12 February calling for the resignation of the President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, after his statements - which it considers revisionist - during the commemoration of the massacres of the ‘foibe’ (see EUROPE 12192). "In both Slovenia and Croatia, these statements by Tajani and Salvini (who was present at the commemoration, ed.) have been condemned by the leaders of the two countries in the strongest terms", notes Tanja Fajon (S&D, Slovenia) in an email sent on Wednesday to MEPs and parliamentary assistants in the European Parliament. The Deputy’s team is aware that this initiative will not succeed. But the aim is to alert the public and require the presidents of the European Commission and the European Council, to whom the results of the petition will be forwarded, to take an official position.
