Parliament adopts streamlining measures for advancing realisation of TEN-T network

On Wednesday 13 February, MEPs meeting in plenary session of the European Parliament broadly adopted (443 votes in favour, 156 against, 14 abstentions) on first reading the report by Dominique Riquet (ALDE, France) on the rationalisation measures to be adopted in order to move towards the completion of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T).

No amendments had been tabled and therefore no vote was taken to amend the text approved in the Parliament’s ‘Transport’ Committee on 10 January (see EUROPE 12170). The draft text was then approved by a very comfortable majority, proof that this proposal did not really pose any problems for Parliament.

This text mirrors the European Commission's proposal of 17 May last, which was presented as part of the third ‘mobility’ package (see EUROPE 12022)

Despite this vote, inter-institutional negotiations ('trilogues') with the Council cannot start today, as Transport Ministers have only adopted a progress report at this stage (see EUROPE 12151, 12148). (Original version in French by Lucas Tripoteau)
