13/02/2019 (Agence Europe) – In a press release published on Tuesday 12 February, the road hauliers' unions, represented by the European Transport Workers' Federation (ETF), call on MEPs to vote against the report drafted by Roberts Zīle (ECR, Latvia) on the liberalisation of coach and bus transport. The report, which echoes the European Commission's proposal of November 2017 (see EUROPE 11900), was also the subject of a vote in the Parliament's Transport Committee on 22 January (see EUROPE 12177) and will now be voted on by the MEPs meeting in Parliament's plenary session on Thursday 14 February. "This [the report] is all about business profits. More competition for buses and coaches means some routes are bound to close, which will mean job losses. This is a poorly thought-out proposal", writes the ETF. (LT)
