According to information EUROPE has received, the European Commission would again like to postpone the presentation of its initiative on whistleblowers, which had initially been planned for 28 March, to the second week of April.
The new date is possibly 18 April, but this still needs to be confirmed. The list of the points planned for the college's agenda in its update on 6 March already indicated that the presentation of the said initiative required confirmation for 28 March. Arbitration will still need to be carried out, even if the nature of this has not been communicated.
The European Parliament hastily adopted an own initiative report in October calling on the Commission to present a legislative initiative for guaranteeing horizontal protection for whistleblowers by the end of 2017 (see EUROPE 11890). The delay by the Commission, which postponed the proposal until spring 2018, was there for a matter of concern to certain MEPs (see EUROPE 11914, 11933). (Original version in French by Pascal Hansens)
