European Banking Authority to create FinTech Hub in 2018

On Thursday 15 March, the European Banking Authority published a roadmap setting out its priorities for the next two years in the field of financial technology (FinTech), including a key measure to create a FinTech Knowledge Hub, to share best regulatory practices at European level.

The EBA's Knowledge Hub will ensure that EU supervisors share best practice and adopt a technologically neutral approach to the application of new technologies in the financial sector”, said the chairperson of the authority, Andrea Enria, in a press release.

The new hub will be created this year and will bring together supervisors, regulators, FinTech companies, technology providers and, where appropriate, consumers and resolution authorities.

It will also be tasked with identifying emerging trends throughout the financial sector, facilitating exchanges of information with companies entering the market and producing reports on regulatory and supervisory aspects, in order to promote technological neutrality.

It will also work with the European FinTech lab, which was announced by the Commission in its action plan last week (see EUROPE 11977) and which is expected to be in place in the second quarter of 2018. (Original version in French by Marion Fontana)
