19/09/2017 (Agence Europe) – In a press release published on Monday 18 September, the European GNSS Agency (GSA) welcomed the fact that on Wednesday 13 September, the Apple company revealed that the new iPhone 8, iPhone 8 plus and iPhone X are compatible with Galileo signals. The agency also notes that the users of these iPhones will benefit from better geolocalisation through the combination of GPS, Glonass and Galileo signals. The Commissioner for the Single Market and Industry, Elżbieta Bieńkowska, said, “Since we launched Galileo last year, more and more device manufacturers are starting to incorporate its signals, which is a demonstration of the excellence and added-value of European technology". This is good news for the Commission, for which the compatibility of chipsets with Galileo signals has been a crucial challenge (see EUROPE 11770). (PH)
