Brussels, 20/12/2012 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 19 December, 15 member states in the anti-dumping committee of the European Council said that they were in favour of anti-dumping measures on imports of American bioethanol, on the basis of a legislative proposal put forward by the European Commission. Once the specific decision of the Commission has been published, the measures will become active and should take the form of a tax of 9.6% for five years. The European renewable ethanol association, ePURE, which was at the origin of the complaint filed in November 2011, welcomed in a press release that the member states considered it “legitimate to compensate EU producers for the injury caused by cheap and subsidised US ethanol imports on the EU market during the past three years” (see EUROPE 10503).
