09/11/2010 (Agence Europe) - European Digital Agenda Commissioner Neelie Kroes has given strong backing to the motor vehicle research industry, calling for European-level cooperation and setting out the opportunities offered by Community research programmes, such as the public-private partnership on green cars and the joint undertaking ARTEMIS. Speaking at the annual EUCAR (European Council for Automotive R&D) conference on Monday 8 November, Kroes said that “only sustained excellence in research can ensure the future successes of the industry”, Europe's only remaining major production industry. The priorities of European funding, she said, relate to the convergence of future internet and connected cars, electric vehicles and support for the technologies that make cars greener.
