Brussels, 09/11/2010 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament (EP) economic and monetary affairs committee has decided to postpone its vote on the legislative proposal on European supervision of credit rating agencies (see EUROPE 10151) until 22 November. EP rapporteur Jean-Paul Gauzès (EPP, France) is likely to suggest compromise amendments at the end of the week. These will probably relate to the provision that calls for any financial institutions which want a rating to provide the information necessary for this rating to all rating agencies, including those which the institution does not pay. The Belgian Presidency wants a first reading political agreement before the end of the year. As Belgian Finance Minister Didier Reynders announced, an extraordinary Ecofin Council will be held at the end of November or start of December to discuss the issue. The EP would then formally confirm the political agreement at its December plenary session. (M.B./transl.rt)
