09/11/2010 (Agence Europe) - Setting out the European Commission work programme for the European Parliament transport committee on Tuesday 9 November, Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas announced that a communication on access to the rail market would be brought forward in 2012. The aim of the communication will be to review the organisation of the rail market, including opening up the passenger rail transport market to competition, he said. Also in 2012, the Commission intends to examine enhancing the powers of the European Rail Agency, making it into a one stop shop for approval of rolling stock, Kallas said. Other measures proposed seek to: - complete the single market in other modes of transport; - support innovation and infrastructure development; - and make transport cleaner. (A.By./transl.rt)
