19/09/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 18 September, the European Commission decided to take Estonia and the United Kingdom before the Court of Justice of the European Communities for failing to transpose European legislation on enhancing port security into national law within the time set. The complaint concerns provisions of the directive on port security which should have been transposed into national law by 15 June 2007 and which define the actors and procedures with a view to enhancing port security (see EUROPE 8944). Estonia has not notified a single national measure transposed from this directive, while the United Kingdom has not transposed the directive completely, as it is only in Gibraltar that the directive has been fully transposed. Definitive transposition measures are being prepared in both member states but have not yet been finally adopted. (A.By./transl.jl)
