Brussels, 19/09/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 18 September, the European Commission sent a reasoned opinion to Greece for failing to apply the regulation on establishing common rules in the field of civil aviation safety and the regulation finalising common specification for national quality control programmes in the same sector. The two regulations make it an obligation for member states to regularly inspect airports located on their territory in order to prevent any failings in the security chain. To this end, member states must ensure they have a sufficient number of inspectors to carry out conformity controls. According to the Commission, Greece is not in line with these two obligations. It is therefore invited to take the necessary measures to implement its obligations in the time given, namely two months. Failing this, the matter will be referred to the Court of Justice.
